Future Energy Solutions, a division of technical broadline distributor Future Electronics, has released a Plugmeter reference design enabling the rapid development of electricity metering applications which show consumers their current or recent power usage.
The Plugmeter board demonstrates a complete 15A, single-phase power meter for use with 110V/220V AC inputs, and includes a 2.4GHz RF module from Synapse Wireless which provides full mesh networking capabilities. OEMs can easily incorporate elements of the modular board in their product designs, giving end users the ability to track the electricity usage of products such as home appliances, plug strips, electric motors, servers and HVAC equipment.
Metso will supply a pellet-fired heating plant to Tampereen Energiantuotanto Oy in the city of Tampere in Finland. The plant will be delivered by the Metso-Wärtsilä joint venture MW Power. The delivery will comprise a full-scope turn-key boiler plant solution, including all the necessary equipment and commissioning. The plant will be Finland’s largest pellet-fired plant, based on a technological solution that is the first of its kind in Finland. The value of the order will not be disclosed. The heating plant will be used as a peak load and backup plant and will replace some of the capacity of the existing oil- and gas-fuelled boiler plants. The plant will be fired with wood pellets and its heat input will be around 33 MW. Replacing the old boilers with a new modern pellet-fired boiler will significantly reduce the CO2 emissions resulting from the production of district heating.

Upgraded boiler controls enable greater use of waste fuels
Tata Steel’s Port Talbot facility in Wales has upgraded control of its largest steam boiler using energy management technologies and services from Emerson Process Management. The new controls enable Tata to increase energy efficiency and maximise use of waste fuels, reducing emissions as well as reliance on purchased fuels.

Metso and Stora Enso Corporation have signed an agreement on the single-drum conversion of Stora Enso’s Imatra Mills’ recovery boiler. The conversion of the recovery boiler will be completed in the fall of 2012. The value of the order will not be disclosed.
