Calls for ever higher productivity puts high demands on critical pieces of process plant. Often the limiting factor to increasing production are large gearboxes already working at their limit, but the cost of replacement is very high.

Hägglunds Drives, in co-operation with the gearbox people, can offer affordable solutions to this quandary by using their large hydraulic drives to assist the existing set up. This not only adds power to the plant and relieves the existing gearbox, thereby providing extended life, but the function and performance of the plant can often be improved with immediate paybacks.

Hägglunds complete drive systems are also used on all kinds of Industrial and Marine applications as direct hydraulic drives, eliminating gearboxes completely.
Many thousands are in operation all around the world on feeders/conveyors, drums, presses, mills, mixers, cutterheads and winches. They provide an attractive, simple and compact drive solution with many benefits in operation and are very user friendly.

A typical Hägglunds Drive consists of a drive motor selected from the wide range available to give the torque required. A power unit with a variable displacement pump/motor set and necessary tank, filters and instrumentation. A control and monitoring unit and the inter-piping. The arrangement is versatile and flexible which enables customisation to suit the exact requirements of the application and environment.

Dewatering presses are always operating a compromise between a faster speed for higher production and a lower speed to improve the dryness of the product which can bring big savings in energy in further drying processesPicture 2
Dewatering presses are always operating a compromise between a faster speed for higher production and a lower speed to improve the dryness of the product which can bring big savings in energy in further drying processes. Lower speeds also mean higher torques which the gearboxes struggle to achieve. This gearbox was modified from a 5-stage gearbox to single stage gears with two Hagglunds drives providing infinitely variable speed on the input.
The new gears could be made double the width so able to take the new higher torques at lower speeds and dry substance rates improved with subsequent energy saving.

Sugar cane mills are traditionally driven by steam turbines and open gears with at least three rolls operating like a big mangle

Sugar cane mills are traditionally driven by steam turbines and open gears with at least three rolls operating like a big mangle. By disconnecting one roll and driving it with a Hägglunds drive and varying the speed in relation to the other rolls not only is the mill given more power but the crushing performance is improved.
