The INTERBUS Club Germany and PI (PROFIBUS & PROFINET International) Germany have reached a mutual decision to integrate the Interbus technology into PI. The decision was made at the annual general members assembly of the organizations at this year's Hanover Fair.
With end-users a dramatic shift in fieldbus technologies in the Ethernet direction can be observed. For this reason, the INTERBUS Club made an earlier decision to rely on PROFINET for its future Ethernet-based standard and to create an optimal integration concept within the relevant working groups of PI. Since furthermore the INTERBUS technology has been fully developed, the members of the INTERBUS CLUB have decided to transfer the technology to PI and to disband the organization once its mission has been achieved.
Thanks to EDDL (Electronic Device Description Language), millions of field devices such as valve positioners, radar level transmitters, and bus diagnostics modules work together even if they are made by different manufacturers. PI (PROFIBUS & PROFINET International) welcomes the incorporation of the latest enhancements of the EDDL technology in the second edition of the IEC 61804-3 international standard.
To further advance PROFIdrive and to enable efficient implementation of the profile, development support in the form of source code will be made available to device manufacturers. The foundations for this were laid in a kickoff meeting of the Industrial NETworx Community hosted by Hilscher in Germany on January 27, 2011, and attended by representatives of 15 companies. PI (PROFIBUS & PROFINET International) welcomes this action because it will contribute greatly to the wide dissemination of the profile and of PROFIBUS and PROFINET in drive applications.
