PULSARGUARD 2010 – SOLIDS FLOW MONITORING WITHOUT GETTING IN A FLAP Pulsar Process Measurement’s PulsarGuard 2010 is a non-contact, non-invasive acoustic monitor that reliably monitors flow of solids in a pipe with no wear issues. Small and easily installed, the PulsarGuard 2010 can effectively replace flap or other contacting switches to warn of low/no flow conditions.

A great example of the equipment in use is at North West Agriculture, a major animal feed manufacturer supplying hundreds of customers all over the country. With production running in excess of 5000 tonnes a week, they can’t afford the breakdowns that would occur if the dry meal flow to one of the conditioning mixers failed and they pumped liquid molasses into an empty chamber. Where a flap switch will wear out over time or possibly jam open, requiring down time for maintenance or replacement, the PulsarGuard unit has no maintenance requirement and continues to monitor flow from outside the feed pipe.

Although the environment is acoustically noisy and prone to vibration, the PulsarGuard unit has proved itself well able to avoid the competing signals, and the first test installation has been followed up with several further units and the company plans to replace all their remaining flap switches.
