One of North East England’s largest manufacturing forums has appointed Colin Simpson, of pump distributor and manufacturer Tomlinson Hall, to its board to help drive forward the organisation’s development.
Colin, business development director at Billingham-based Tomlinson Hall, has been appointed to the board of the Advanced Manufacturing Forum (AMF) to help shape its strategy and future growth.
Established by the private sector to offer a single voice on behalf of the manufacturing community, the AMF engages with members and the wider business community to exchange ideas and knowledge to create business growth and success opportunities within the manufacturing industry.
Colin has worked for Tomlinson Hall since 1994 and is responsible for promoting the company nationally and internationally, as well as building relationships with pump manufacturers and end users across a range of industries.
He will utilise his industry experience in his role as an AMF board member to contribute to the Forum’s policies and strategies, plan member events, and decide on the allocation of funding and budgetary spend.
A joint founding member of the Pump Distributors Association, Tomlinson Hall is an approved global distributor of many leading pump brands, such as DEPA, ELRO, Grundfos, Mono and Richter, and offers a total service to industry – including pump selection and supply, site visits, problem-solving, servicing and repairs.
Founded on Teesside in 1919, Tomlinson Hall also manufactures its own innovative liquid ring vacuum pump, Liquivac, which can perform operations across industries including seawater extraction, land remediation, chemical processing, food and drink processing and utilities.

Colin’s appointment to the AMF board follows a successful 2016 for Tomlinson Hall, which saw the company roll out Energy Check Reports in partnership with Grundfos: these are being delivered nationwide and are designed to help end users make significant energy savings on their pump systems and to improve operational efficiency.
The company was recently awarded the ‘Distributor of the Year’ title in the Pump Industry Awards 2017, which recognise performance, innovation and achievement in the pump sector. Its business support manager, Mark Wright, was also a finalist in the ‘Engineer of the Year’ category.
This achievement follows the company’s success in the North East of England Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC) Awards 2017, where the firm won the SME of the Year title for the second time in three years.

The AMF offers members business support and advice on areas ranging from funding to staffing, marketing, environmental issues, HR, IT and legal guidance, as well as providing support to members on productivity, innovation and training and skills.
To share best practice throughout the manufacturing industry, the AMF hosts quarterly events for members, these include the HR Forum, the Finance Forum, the Process Improvement Group and the Marketing Club.
