612 Adding to its extensive range of switchgear solutions, Schneider Electric, a global specalist in energy management, has launched Premset switchgear - the first MV distribution switchgear to combine a Shielded Solid Insulation System (2SIS) in a compact and modular design.
Offering users a unique combination of technologies, Premset provides robustness, protection and flexibility for optimal product performance and life. The smart grid ready solution is designed for ease of installation, upgrade and maintenance complete in a modular formation.
Featuring 2SIS, a breakthrough innovation, the switchgear’s live parts are all protected to help ensure its safe operation and trouble free service life for both the equipment and operator.

Crucially, 2SIS extends the equipment life by up to 30 per cent with no preventative maintenance or servicing required. Due to its 3-in-1 design, Schneider Electric believes Premset switchgear is the safest and most intuitive switchgear in its class featuring breaking, disconnection and earthing functions within a single compact three-position device for ease of operation.
In addition being SF6- free, Premset uses only vacuum and air technologies and is built with failsafe interlocks for enhanced safety. Through advanced monitoring, control and smart grid functionality, it also helps ensure the network is at its peak performance level, featuring;
• Feeder automation; including built-in communication and local intelligence
• Load management, with integrated smart metering
• Asset management, with advanced switchgear and transformer monitoring
• VIP self-powered protection and communication relay for higher MV network availability
Every aspect of the system is designed to help reduce the total cost of ownership, as well as making installation and adaptations as seamless as possible. Some additional features include:
• Identical busbar and cable connections across entire range for ease of assembly
• Easy-to-install flat patented universal flat power connection system
• Extended possibilities for cable entry with easy connection at a height of 700mm and a single type of bushing.
Premset is also designed to make upgrading simpler with the same auxiliaries and monitoring devices for the entire range. Its plug and play design allows for onsite additions that don’t require any special tools, training or adjustments.
