Emerson launches Rosemount 8795 flow sensor for data centre cooling

Listen to this article

Emerson has launched the Rosemount 8795 Magnetic Flow Sensor, designed to improve flow measurement accuracy, reliability and uptime in data centre hydronic cooling systems.

The industrial-grade sensor is optimised for chilled water and water-glycol cooling loops, helping operators monitor cooling performance and support efficient thermal management in mission-critical environments.

“As data centres expand to support growing digital infrastructure demands, the Rosemount 8795 applies decades of Emerson flow measurement expertise to help operators improve reliability, simplify deployment and maximise cooling system performance in mission-critical applications,” said Bob Halgren, vice president magnetic and vortex flow products with Emerson’s measurement instrumentation business.

Accurate measurement in space-constrained installations

The Rosemount 8795 addresses a common installation challenge in data centres, where limited space can make it difficult to provide the straight pipe runs traditionally required for accurate flow measurement.

Its Short Run Installation software enables measurement accuracy of 0.5% at zero upstream and downstream pipe diameters (0D), depending on the upstream disturbance and electrode distance. The feature is configured during setup when the sensor is paired with compatible Rosemount magnetic flow transmitters.

For installations providing straight pipe runs of 5D upstream and 2D downstream or more, the sensor can deliver accuracy of 0.2% ± 2 mm/s with compatible Rosemount transmitters.

Built-in diagnostics and verification capabilities also help reduce commissioning risks and support confidence in ongoing system performance.

Designed for data centre cooling

Available for line sizes from 2 to 18 inches, the sensor offers 0.1% repeatability to provide consistent measurement data for building management systems (BMS) and data centre infrastructure management (DCIM). These measurements can support calculations for water usage effectiveness (WUE), carbon usage effectiveness (CUE) and power usage effectiveness (PUE).

The PTFE liner and stainless steel electrodes are designed for primary cooling applications and closed-loop systems.

Additional features include a minimum conductivity requirement of 5 µS/cm, dual 4-20 mA and Modbus outputs, universal AC or DC power options and integral or remote transmitter mounting. With no moving parts, the sensor is designed for dependable operation and simplified maintenance.

The Rosemount 8795 expands Emerson’s magnetic flow measurement portfolio with a solution tailored to data centre cooling requirements, supported by the company’s global supply chain.
