The Silverson Sealed Unit laboratory mixer is designed for mixing sterile or hazardous materials and for working under vacuum.
It is ideal for research and pilot-scale production in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Processing can be carried out under conditions of absolute safety, since the mechanical seal protects sterile materials from airborne contamination and eliminates the risk of hazardous materials escaping into the surrounding atmosphere.
The efficiency of the machine is such that materials are reduced to a fine homogeneous suspension in a few seconds, with virtually no heat rise.
The mixer features a special Quick-Release mechanism which permits any of the Sealed Unit Mixing Assemblies listed overleaf to be easily attached or removed. Once attached, the mechanism hermetically seals the mixing assembly and vessel, preventing any contamination.
Mixing Assemblies and Vessels
The following vessels are available for the sealed unit; these feature integral mixing assemblies specially modified to suit the individual container. Sealed Unit mixers will accept any of these vessels but are not compatible with any of the assemblies for standard L5 Series laboratory mixers (and vice versa).
Glass mixing vessels
- 0.5K – 480 ml glass jar – mixing assembly supplied with General Purpose Disintegrating Head, Square Hole High Shear Screen and Standard Emulsor Screen.
- 1.0K – 960 ml glass jar – mixing assembly generally as 0.5K (above).
- 3⁄4” Flexible Tubular – 225ml glass bottle – supplied with interchangeable screw-on General Purpose Disintegrating Head and Square Hole High Shear Screen.
- 5⁄8” Flexible Micro – 25ml Universal glass vial – supplied with integral General Purpose Disintegrating Head or integral Slotted Disintegrating Head.
- 3⁄8” Flexible Mini-Micro – 7ml bijou vial – mixing assemblies generally as 5⁄8” Flexible Micro above.
Stainless steel vessels
- SS1 – 1 litre stainless steel container – mixing units as 1.0N.
- SS2 – 2 litre stainless steel container – mixing units as 1.0N.
- SS5 – 5 litre stainless steel container – mixing units as 1.0N.
- SS1, SS2 and SS5 can be fitted with a 1/4”MNPT port for vacuum.
