A bi-monthly(ish) lighthearted insight into the world of PII's publisher Guy Ullmann's latest going's on, together with updates about PII and details of ‘What's coming up‘ in each issue
I hope you had a really great Christmas break, although no doubt a distant memory now, and have had a busy start to the New Year!
Christmas was a little sad this year, pops took a turn for the worst at the end of November and has been in hospital ever since, where he is now receiving end of life care. Pretty heartbreaking to go through it all, but he really is a stubborn old goat and apparently not going anywhere any time soon!
Before I headed home, I sneaked his favourite beer in to share with him, it was a nice moment and I think he enjoyed it!
Then to really top my day off, on my journey home after seeing pops probably for the last time, I had my brand new Samsonite suitcase stolen from the train. Furious is an understatement! In hindsight I was a walking target, so I can only blame myself, but boy was I gutted, it had my entire Christmas in and more.
So hopefully things can only improve, right???
FOR SALE!
If anyone has seen a bright orange suitcase for sale in or around Bishop’s Stortford please let me know! ;(
The fixtures were kind to me this Christmas, with Pompey’s two away games at Bristol Rovers and Exeter, which meant only one thing – Boys away day road trip with Noah!
Although, sadly the games and results weren’t the best – I really should know better that Pompey always have a Christmas hangover, with a measly 1 point from the two games , but they were good fun and I got to see a some friends for pre-match beerios, even if they were Exeter fans!
Christmas isn’t Christmas without a stop at my besties, who always serves up a great cheese board, however the pickles really did live up to their name!
For New Years I was in what seemed like a very quiet London, with a friend who was visiting for the first time. Of course we did the usual tourist things and made the best of our time in typically wet & miserable conditions boo hoo!
Back in Somerset and this really made me giggle…
I took mum out for dinner and ‘one was not amused’ when the waitress presented her with the 1/2 pint beer she ordered, which it clearly wasn’t, however the waitress was adamant it was.
Eventually I spoke to the manager who thankfully agreed it was the wrong glass, but the look on mum’s face was priceless! And the nice manager brought over a new glass with the correct measurement! Mum was happy once again.
The first day of blue skies in a month I made my annual pilgrimage up to the Tore in Glastonbury.
Although the day started with beautiful blue skies, by the time I reached the top it was of course grey and overcast. From the top you could see the flooding in the neighbouring fields – incredible to think there’s a festival here in 5 months! Although I shouldn’t be concerned – global warming will dry it out in no time!
My last morning in Somerset and I woke up early to go for a walk and take some photos with my new phone – Google Pixel 8 Pro (I gave up on my Huawei Pro 60, complete waste of time & money!). The camera is pretty decent, although I think I preferred the Huawei, but only just.
The flooding made for some pretty awesome photos….
Back in my adopted home away from home….
Francesca and I hit the mountains for a weekend of trekking with amazing beautiful crisp days with clear blues days, oh how I had missed them!
The weekend coincided with the festival of Fuochi di Sant’Antonio (St. Anthony's fire), where according to legend, Saint Anthony stole a spark from the Underworld and gave it to humanity on Earth, which at the time was experiencing glacial temperatures, bringing light and heat necessary for the sustenance of the people.
To celebrate a large bonfire is lit and lots of drinking and traditional dancing is to be made!
Something tells me our current climate needs more than Sant’Antonio’s help 🙁
A few short videos of our weekend away….
The typical local dance, which I'm sure they just do to keep warm as it was blimmin' freezing!
Playing ‘Dodge Cow' with the car, which Francesca did not find amusing – much to my amusement! (Thankfully you probably won't understand her expletives!)
Francesca crossing ‘The River of Death‘ on our way to a waterfall that never was 🙁
Do you consider your clients are interested in multiple product areas?
This is a really interesting question, and something that should definitely be taken into consideration when selecting a media partner.
During the magazine subscription process we ask our readers to select their areas of interest, as per the screenshot below:
As you can see from the quick video below, the majority of our readers are interested in multiple product areas, which is why I think it's so important to consider this when selecting a media partner: (excuse the awful sound a quality!)
