      🧴🫧🚿 A deep-dive into How to Formulate and Mix Sulphate-Free Shampoos In advance of changing regulations, many shampoo manufacturers are adapting and changing formulations to sulphate-free. In this video, Clarissa from @HolifermYT talks us through the formulation for 'The Shampoo', a pearlescent, Ultra-mild, 100% natural shampoo she manufactures using a Silverson High Shear mixer in 3 simple steps: 1: Hydrate the gum (CMC) with the Humectant (Glycerin) and Water (making up 60% of the formulation), using the Silverson mixer to ensure the gum is fully hydrated. 2. Add the Surfactants - Decyl Glucoside, GLT and Holisurf LF, incorporating them with the Silverson mixer. 3. Add a Natural Preservative (Phenthyl Alcohol) and the Aesthetic components (Mica), and mix for the final time with the Silverson mixer on a slow speed to minimise air entrapment and incorporate the fine clay powder into the viscous mix. The Result: A Sulphate-free, well incorporated Shampoo with the rheology you'd expect from a 'traditional' shampoo. This formulation is sustainable and can be used by the whole family, including pets!       How to Efficiently Mix Artificial Sweeteners Using High Shear Mixers 🍬 Artificial Sweeteners are used to create a lighter version of a wide range of products. Many manufacturers add additional ingredients such as bulking and thickening agents alongside artificial sweeteners to try to replicate the 'mouthfeel' - the texture and consistency - of sugar-based products. ❌ Bulking agents and thickeners can be difficult to hydrate and dissolve, often leading to long processing times, poor dispersion, and inconsistent results. Often times incorporating these ingredients is done at high temperature to aid incorporation, adding to processing times and costs.
