A bi-monthly(ish) lighthearted insight into the world of PII's publisher Guy Ullmann's latest going's on, together with updates about PII and details of ‘What's coming up‘ in each issue
May is definitely my favourite month, summer is on the way, we have two bank holidays and the latter of which usually coincides with my birthday! Although turning 42 is not something to celebrate this year!
I'd like to share with you a recent experience I had, part of which still makes me squirm in embarrassment – bear with me, there is a point to it…!
Towards the end of last year I got a niggling injury that put me out of action for 5 months. That, coinciding with Christmas, meant that my usual dry January was not enough to shed the extra pounds I had gained. (Not great when you play quite a lot of beach tennis and very conscious that every other person has a gleaming six-pack!)
So, with Robi's ‘encouragement' she persuaded me to visit her nutritionist, which was a real eye opener.
Prior to the initial consultation I had to have a blood test and provide a pee sample. Naturally Robi forgot to tell me this minor detail, so I had to go back the next day and as always was running late…
I ran into the reception with my cup in a paper bag and was greeted with a shocked receptionist screaming “Il vasetto sta perdendo! Il vasetto sta perdendo!” which with my limited Italian wasn't very helpful, until I looked down and realised the lid may not have been sealed fully…. gulp!
I ran out quicker than you could say ‘mama mia'
The worst part is that I had to go back later with a new properly sealed cup, embarrassed doesn't even come close!
Not my proudest moment, but looking back now I can laugh…and share! 🙂
Anyway…
Being a veggie I always thought I ate very healthily, however, there is one thing eating healthy food, but another thing having a balanced diet.
As I learnt, there are a number of factors that make up a good diet and even better waste line!
The doctor plugged me in and took all my vitals and within a couple of days sent over a personalised diet.
It did take a few days to adjust to not only the diet but how creative I could be with my culinary skills (see my roundup gallery below!), however the difference after 3 months is pretty awesome. (Although I am combining this with Caroline Girvan's EPIC Endgame 50 day workout, which is an absolute killer!)
So Guy, why the hell are you sharing stories about leaking cups of pee I hear you ask!?
Well, that part of the story I just thought would be funny to share – We could all do with some cheering up during the current circumstances, even if it is at my own expense!
However, you can compare my new found balanced diet with your marketing strategy…
You need to have the right balance of different elements to get the most out of your marketing approach.
Too much of anything is not great and missing important aspects that you think you don't need can have a negative impact.
It's also important to note that it takes time to adjust to a new diet and to reap the rewards, and the more consistent you are the better the results.
Using established media that matches your client profile is one of those important elements.
The continuity of being seen with trusted and respected media partners plays a vital role in your sales funnel. It adds credibility and value to your company – this is why so many companies add the ‘As featured on e.g. Entrepreneur, Forbes, PII 😉 etc' on their own websites – because it tells prospective clients you can be trusted.
So, whether it's via PR, display advertising, Podcasts, Webinars, Banner advertising, Directory listings, Social media sponsorship, Email marketing etc, these are all elements when working with a trusted media partner, that can strengthen your marketing approach to the industry. Why not look at the variety of 1st class services we offer here.
What this also teaches you, is to make sure the lid is well & truly fastened on any samples you may be providing…!

A good friend shared a poem with me recently to help get my head back on track during a difficult period, which I'd like to share with you:
If—
Rudyard Kipling
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with wornout tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on”;
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings—nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run—
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!
Send any comments and I'll get right back to you
