A bi-monthly(ish) lighthearted insight into the world of PII's publisher Guy Ullmann's latest going's on, together with updates about PII and details of ‘What's coming up‘ in each issue
I hope you had or are continuing to have a great summer.
Â
I'm fresh back from the World Beach Tennis Championships, which sadly didn't quite go to plan…
Â
On Saturday morning during the warm up I felt a ‘snap' in my left knee, clearly a ligament tear and not the start I wanted, but I continued nonetheless.
Â
Not being my normal mobile self, we crashed out pretty early on. However, after taking some very strong painkillers, I played the mixed tournament in the afternoon and somehow made it through to the final, but due to bad light it had to be played the following morning.
Â
I could hardly walk the next day, so the final was a bit of a non-contest as our opponents twigged early on I was less than agile which they took full advantage of!
Â
I should really learn not to listen to the 21-year old me and stopped the moment I felt the ping, as I'm now laid up with ice whilst waiting to have an MRI scan, and I have to say out the many injuries I've had over the years, this is up there with the most painful, I highly do not recommend!
Â
Yet another surgery to look forward to…NOT!!!
Â
Before the injury I had the pleasure to represent the GB team – the first time they had entered the World Championship, which was great fun and a real honour.
Thankfully the resort wasn't too bad and I could numb the pain of losing and my knee with the local beverages and dip in the pool!
The resort was pretty stunning complete with private jacuzzi and gorgeous modern-style wigwam huts.
However, I'm really not one for À la carte, and without wanting to sound ungrateful, the food was not quite to my tastes – or Francesca's for that matter, her main course was 4 duck brains, which didn't go down too well – it was like a scene from James Bond!
Whilst away, we did some exploring and found some food more to our liking…!
As you may have seen on the PII homepage, our new ‘Process Stories' service is now live!
Â
As you'll see they offer a new engaging way for our audience to learn more about your latest news, products, services, case studies… in fact anything!
Â
They appear at the top of the homepage and on the right column of article pages. We also have an archive section where they will remain indefinitely.
Â
We have a special offer until the end of October, you can read more and book one of the launch offers here
This caught my eye this week; Google is very close to launching its own version of ChatGTP which apparently has five times greater computational power than GPT-4.
You can read more here.
In case you didn't know, we're surely at the early stages of a major development in society. In my lifetime the internet and social media have been the two biggest introductions I can relate to, and AI is set to become the latest and possibly most significant.
Whilst I can appreciate the positives that AI brings, a big part of me thinks that the general human race will just become more lazy and reliant on AI, which for me can only have a negative impact.
Time will tell…
The September/October edition of PII includes a Water & Wastewater special, 5 additional features and columns from Sean and Gavin – Full schedule below:
