ATEX compliance and why is it important?

Listen to this article

ATEX is the European standard for equipment operating in explosive atmospheres. Derived from French, its acronym stands for – “Appareils destinés à être utilisés en Atmosphères Explosives” which means “Devices intended for use in explosive atmospheres”.

Being ATEX certified is crucial for any machinery intended for use in a place or atmosphere where there is a potential risk of explosion due to the excess dust, vapours or gases that are at risk of igniting. For example, in animal feed mills, these risks are ever present due to the potential for dust, chemicals or micronised products used in the manufacturing process.

At ISF, we pride ourselves on being leaders in providing process engineering solutions for the animal feed mill engineering industry. As a critical cog in the British food supply chain, we provide reliable & bespoke maintenance, repairs and upgrades for our clients and customers to ensure the most effective and efficient running of their mill. A huge part of being the best at what we do is making sure we are compliant with industry standards and certifications! We design and manufacture ATEX-certified equipment (up to category 2) from our York based workshop, solidifying our commitment to the highest safety standards in explosive atmospheres. Conveyors

Our ATEX-certified screw conveyors, and chain and flight conveyors, are the ideal solution for safely transporting materials in plant systems, especially in hazardous environments. Designed to handle dry to semi-fluid materials, they ensure durability, adaptability, and streamlined operations.

The benefit of the ATEX certification ensures reduced risk of explosion, enhanced reliability, and compliance. Our conveyors are also built to meet Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU standards. Our team rigorously tests and risk-assesses each conveyor and ensures they are engineered for durability. We can customise conveyors to your specifications and include replaceable wear plates for high-wear areas and ex certified components for added safety in explosive atmospheres.
