Two decades on the wagon for super sober Borger Rotary Lobe Pump

Listen to this article

A Borger Rotary Lobe Pump has successfully completed more than 20 years of continuous service for a food manufacturer specialising in syrups concentrate vitamin combinations and emulsions used in a wide range of alcohol-free beverages.

The installation stands as a strong example of long-term reliability efficiency and low lifecycle cost within demanding food and beverage production environments.

After more than two decades in operation the Borger pump continues to perform with very low wear and remains fully operational. This longevity is particularly notable given the challenging nature of the application where viscous liquid sugar must be transferred accurately and consistently as part of a tightly controlled production process.

The rotary lobe pump is managed by a control unit combined with a frequency converter which precisely regulates pump speed. This allows liquid sugar to be transferred from the storage tank into the mixing tank in carefully controlled doses. Accurate dosing is essential to ensure consistent product quality across different beverage formulations while minimising waste and optimising energy use.

Within the wider system varying levels of liquid sugar are introduced depending on the specific drink being produced. The Borger Rotary Lobe Pump accommodates these variations with ease delivering reliable flow control without compromising product integrity. Its Maintenance-In-Place design has played a key role in keeping service time and maintenance costs to an absolute minimum.

Routine inspection and servicing can be carried out quickly without the need for extensive system dismantling which is a significant advantage in food manufacturing environments where downtime must be avoided.

A Borger Rotary Lobe Pump has kept service time and costs to a minimum.

Borger has extensive experience in comparable food processing and sugar handling applications. One notable example is at a sugar refinery where Borger pumps are used to handle white mass which is a mixture of sugar syrup and crystals. In this application the pumps manage a highly viscous solution with around 50% solids content during the final processing stage.

At this point the syrup is spun to produce fine white sugar crystals requiring robust equipment capable of maintaining consistent performance under high load conditions.

These proven installations demonstrate the suitability of Borger Rotary Lobe Pumps for handling viscous media within hygienic and demanding production processes. For UK food and beverage manufacturers seeking reliable positive displacement pump technology with long service life, low wear and reduced maintenance requirements, this long-running installation highlights the practical benefits of Borger pump solutions in real-world operation.
