Bostik exhibits latest marine offering at METSTRADE

Bostik, the adhesives solutions segment of Arkema, is exhibiting a range of products, including its MSR sealant range and Born2Bond™ engineering adhesives portfolio, at the marine exhibition METSTRADE, to showcase how adhesives deliver more sustainable, convenient and high-performance manufacturing solutions, as well as reliable repair and maintenance for the marine industry.

Taking centre stage will be the repair kit currently being used by all crews in the prestigious ‘Route du Rhum’ transatlantic sailing race, which embarked recently from Saint Malo, France. The repair kit is used in the event of any equipment failure or emergency repair, delivering a more sustainable approach than replacing parts.

The adhesives have been chosen for their fast-curing, high-strength, and optimum moisture, humidity and chemical resistance qualities. These qualities are crucial for the rigours of the sea and a global sailing challenge. They also provide the required anti-corrosive and hydrophobic qualities suitable for underwater and minute-size applications. Born2Bond™ instant adhesives are suitable for multiple substrates including metal, wood, leather, rubber, plastic composites and alloys. 

The MSR SMP sealant range is solvent and isocyanate free, and provides very good UV, aging and salt and fresh-water resistance, making it ideal for marine applications such as deck caulking.

With recently improved formulations, the Born2Bond™ Ultra one-part, Structural two-part and Light Lock dual-cure (light and surface) cyanoacrylate adhesives enable deck repair without the need to dismantle the deck area. This is especially useful when artificial teak decking wears and bubbles, as it facilitates quick, easy and clean repairs without parts needing to be replaced. 

Born2Bond™ anaerobic adhesives are essential for the assembly of mechanical parts (masts, tanks, pipe & fittings, etc.) and marine propulsion systems (motors, gearboxes, shafts, etc.). Born2Bond™ service products provide best-in-class solutions for cleaning, surface preparation and lubrication.

The repair kit features Bostik’s most prominent marine products, including two Bostik MMA SAF® 30-5 cartridges, two Bostik MMA SAF® 30-15 cartridges, eight Bostik Born2Bond™ Repair structural adhesives, a Bostik Born2Bond™ Ultra Gel instant adhesive, two Bostik MSR Construction Adhesives – which can be used both above and under the water line – and two Elium® Composite Patches.

Born2Bond™ demo kits with instant, anaerobic adhesives and service products will also be on display at METSRADE, helping the team to demonstrate how the engineering adhesives are fast and easy to use, even in the most challenging marine environments.
