Endress+Hauser Ltd achieves EN 16001 Energy Management System certification

Listen to this article

Endress+Hauser Ltd has achieved certification of its Energy Management System, adding the newly introduced BS EN 16001 to its growing list of management system certifications.

The process automation solutions supplier has secured certification after establishing processes and systems to improve energy efficiency at its Manchester office and production centre. This has included installing Endress+Hauser’s own automatic energy monitoring and targeting (aM&T) system into their building to measure and control electricity, gas and compressed air usage. They have also adopted energy saving technology, such as movement controlled lighting and a variable temperature pump controlled heating system, as well as introducing regular communication with staff to promote the benefits of adopting environmental efficiencies.

Having already achieved ISO 9001 Quality, ISO 14001 Environmental and OHSAS 18001 Health & Safety Management Systems certification, the new EN 16001 builds on the company’s proven commitment to environmental initiatives. EN16001 is closely linked to the ISO 14001 standard. However, while the environmental standard is aimed at reducing pollution and environmental harm, the energy management standard is focused on lowering energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, and thus reducing the company’s contribution to global warming.

Quality Manager at Endress+Hauser Ltd, David Kershaw, commented, “This new management system certification demonstrates to our employees, customers and other stakeholders that we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint. The system we have installed here in Manchester will help us to reduce energy costs, as well as showcasing the aM&T technology developed by Endress+Hauser that will allow our customers in the process industries to meet their environmental responsibilities and, if they wish, achieve EN 16001 certification themselves.”
