ERIEZ helps Omni PLastics take purity to the next level

Eriez Magnetics recently supplied Omni Plastics Inc, a manufacturing company specialising in high precision, close tolerance, injection moulded plastic parts for the medical, pharmaceutical and electronics industry, with six Xtreme™ Rare Earth Round Grate Magnets.

For precision and cleanliness, Omni requires completely uncontaminated raw materials in its processes. Omni’s raw materials are predominantly plastic, purchased from major resin manufacturers which they will occasionally grind parts that have been rejected. Regrind can then be used for some non-medical and non-pharmaceutical customers. To assure product purity and prevent costly equipment damage, metal contamination must be removed from the regrind. 

Omni turned to Eriez for help reaching the next level of product purity. Based on Eriez’ subsequent recommendations, Omni installed six high temperature Xtreme™ Rare Earth, 6″ diameter Round Magnetic Grates to replace older magnets installed on their lines. The powerful Eriez Grates were up to 30 times stronger than their previous magnets, and they are positioned in the material hoppers that feed Omni’s injection machines. In this position, they effectively prevent ferrous and small, weakly magnetic contamination, such as hardened stainless steel, from damaging injection screws and barrels.

The Eriez Grates have made the Omni manufacturing process run more smoothly, with less downtime due to plugged nozzles and gates. For Omni, a company whose reputation for precision and purity is essential to its continuing success, the improvements are significant.
