Essentra Team Help Regenerate Coral Reefs In Safety And Sustainability Month

More than 200 employees from Essentra’s manufacturing team in Rayong, Thailand, recently took part in a local project in Sattaship to help regenerate local coral reefs which provide vital coastal protection for communities, habitat for fish, and millions of dollars in recreation and tourism.

The reefs in Thailand, and indeed globally, are under severe threat of dying out through worsening environmental conditions, many the result of human factors. The Essentra team worked in conjunction with the Thai Navy to plant live coral cuttings, much like seedlings in a pot, that will grow and eventually re-populate the sea floor.

Jennifer Spence, Global Head of Sustainability Strategy at Essentra PLC, says the programme was timed to coincide Rayong’s Safety and Sustainability Month: “It is great to see the team engaging in positive actions they feel passionate about and that reflect our commitment to protecting our world, our environment and our people.”

Last year The Royal Thai Navy and its partners successfully released 69 units of artificial coral reefs on the seabed of Koh Samae San in Sattahip district of Chonburi province.

The new artificial coral reefs will increase the fish habitat and are part of the Marine Spatial Planning project aimed at creating a coral reef database for the nation.
