Filtermist Launches F Save to Reduce Energy Consumption for Machine Tools

Filtermist Limited, a leading name in oil mist extraction technology, has just launched F Save, a groundbreaking system aimed at helping manufacturers dramatically enhance their environmental performance by slashing machine tool energy consumption by as much as 80%.

Based in Telford, this company caters to clients in over sixty countries and showcased F Save at the EMO Hannover event. This clever system fine-tunes the operation of Filtermist oil mist collectors, ensuring they only run when necessary instead of continuously throughout a shift.

F Save uses a sensor linked to the machine tool’s coolant pump, which communicates with the F Save Hub. When the pump isn’t active, the Filtermist unit automatically powers down. Since oil mist is produced only during coolant operation, this method cuts out unnecessary energy waste while still providing full protection for operators against harmful airborne particles.

“Our research showed that many machines are only in use for about 20–30% of the workday,” said René Joppi, Managing Director at Filtermist. “Keeping extraction units running the whole time during this period is a waste of energy, drives up operational costs, and adds to a company’s carbon footprint. With F Save, our customers can reduce energy consumption by up to 80%, often seeing a return on their investment in less than three months.”

F Save is designed for quick and easy installation, requiring no electrical integration with the machine tool, making it perfect for retrofitting existing equipment. Plus, it eliminates the chance of operators forgetting to turn extraction units on or off, ensuring a consistently clean and safe working environment.

Applications Engineer Krzysztof Kaszuba, who spearheaded the pre-study, pointed out, “Machine tools usually spend only about half of their operating time actually cutting parts. The rest of the time is taken up with tool changes, part changes, or similar tasks. F Save helps to eliminate energy waste during these downtimes, offering a straightforward and effective way to cut down on energy consumption without sacrificing safety.”

As part of the Swedish-based Absolent Air Care Group, Filtermist provides a wide array of air extraction products and services designed to tackle oil mist, smoke, dust, and fumes.

You can now access F Save through Filtermist and its global network of distributors.
