Engineered GEMÜ Solutions for the Battery Lifecycle

Listen to this article

Lithium-ion batteries have revolutionised energy storage, powering everything from electric vehicles and consumer electronics to large-scale energy storage systems. They are central to modern life and crucial for the transition to sustainable energy.

Behind every battery cell lies a complex manufacturing process with demanding operating conditions. From raw material extraction and hydrometallurgical refining to slurry preparation, electrolyte production and recycling, valves are routinely exposed to aggressive chemicals, abrasive slurries and high solids content.

In these environments, corrosion resistance, abrasion control, process reliability and automation capability are essential to ensure consistent product quality and extended service life.

GEMÜ Group offers a comprehensive portfolio of durable, chemical-resistant and digitally integrable valves, measurement devices and control solutions tailored to the battery industry. With in-house material expertise, GEMÜ supports customers in selecting the optimal body and lining materials to maximise plant availability and system performance.

Valves for Hydrometallurgical Processes

In hydrometallurgical processes, lined diaphragm valves such as the pneumatically operated GEMÜ 620 provide reliable isolation and process control. Linings made from hard rubber, PFA or polypropylene (PP) offer excellent resistance to aggressive media, ensuring safe and consistent operation.

For high solids applications, deep-seated diaphragm valves like the GEMÜ 655 deliver dependable opening and closing, even under abrasive conditions.

Butterfly valves, including the GEMÜ R481 and GEMÜ 491, are ideal for on/off duties and the handling of coarse solids. Chemical-resistant linings and specialised coatings ensure longevity and process integrity.

For demanding control tasks in electrolyte production and recycling, the GEMÜ S40 enables precise and stable flow regulation, supporting accurate dosing of organic solvents and handling of carbonates. This ensures compliance with stringent purity and safety requirements while maintaining process efficiency.

Reliability Across the Battery Lifecycle

Across every stage of the battery lifecycle, from raw materials and cell assembly to recycling, GEMÜ delivers valve technology engineered for reliability in challenging process environments. Their solutions combine chemical resistance, abrasion tolerance and automation readiness to help manufacturers maintain high product quality, optimise plant uptime and meet regulatory demands.

For UK manufacturers seeking resilient, long-life valves and control systems for lithium-ion battery production, GEMÜ provides tailored expertise and robust technology to meet the most exacting process requirements.
