The MEES (Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard) was originally introduced in 2015. From April, these standards will stipulate that non-domestic landlords, including public-sector landlords, will not be able to continue letting any property, that has an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) in the worst performing rating bands of F or G.

This puts those elements that are part of a buildings fixed services involving the heating, mechanical ventilation or air conditioning i.e. those services such as pumps that are attached to the fabric of the building, very much in the spotlight in terms of their contribution to the overall energy rating.

Grundfos are typically able to achieve savings of 30-50% for customers via an Energy Check, as they point the way towards the optimal pump replacement that provide great energy savings. In addition, they achieve reliable operation, reduce both downtime and repair costs as well as being a major contributor to improving a buildings EPC rating.

The changes to MEES will put existing non-domestic buildings back onto the energy agenda, but with the savings that can be achieved through upgrading their pump portfolio for example, there are excellent reasons for any building that is over 5/10 years to review their pump performance as the resultant savings can be significant.
