Hiller Decapress Centrifuge Installation at Swiss Wastewater Treatment Plant for Optimal Dewatering Results

Listen to this article

ARA Schönau is one of the largest and most modern wastewater treatment plants in Switzerland

About 20 million m3 of wastewater are treated and cleared there annually by means of very modern processes. The state of art sludge treatment process used at site includes the Anammox procedure: by an anaerobic ammonia oxidation the nitrogen containing centrate from the sludge dewatering is pre-treated biologically.

For the new sludge dewatering technique the decision-making criteria was based on:-

Cost-efficiency of the decanter centrifuges and Customer satisfaction of previously installed plants.

The Hiller Decapress dewatering technique succeeded in winning due to cost-efficiency combined with high performance

Hiller GmbH were awarded the contract following and open invitation to tender process due to excellent process results during trials, economic viability of the decanter centrifuges as well as the proven customer satisfaction on previously installed Hiller plants.

In December 2015 Hiller delivered two of their high-performance DecaPress centrifuges, type DecaPress DP574.

Since that time the new dewatering machines have brought optimal results in regards to wastewater separation. Hiller was able to meet all the delivery deadlines and even exceeded the required process performance guarantees.

Innovation in regards to centrate regulation leads to stable operation process as well as reduction of polymer amounts.

An additional positive effect on cost-efficiency was the installation of the patented Hiller Centrate Control Camera. This is a newly developed system which ensures a continuous optical monitoring of a pre-selected centrate quality. This automatically regulates the polymer consumption in order to achieve optimal results and save polymer consumption.

By means of this innovative system it is no longer necessary to operate the plant with higher amounts of polymer at weekends or holidays because of safety reasons.
