Pump party for Landia 100,000
Leading pump and mixer manufacturer Landia has reached a major milestone with the completion and sale of its 100,000th custom-built unit, underlining the company’s long-standing commitment to quality engineering and tailored solutions for the process industries.
Founded in 1933, Landia has built an enviable reputation for the longevity, reliability and performance of its pumps and mixers. Over almost a century of continuous operation, the company has evolved from a small manufacturer supplying slurry pumps to farmers into a global specialist serving a wide range of demanding applications.
Today, Landia designs and manufactures pumps and mixers for numerous industries including municipal wastewater treatment, biogas production and food processing, while continuing to maintain and grow its near century-old working relationship with the agricultural sector. This combination of heritage and innovation has allowed the company to remain highly relevant in modern process engineering environments where efficiency, reliability and lifecycle cost are critical.
A defining moment in Landia’s history came in 1950 when the company invented the world’s first Chopper Pump. This breakthrough design set new standards for handling hard-to-manage effluents and slurries and remains a cornerstone of Landia’s technology portfolio. The design philosophy behind the Chopper Pump has always been simple but highly effective, delivering dependable performance in applications where blockage and downtime cannot be tolerated.
The proven Landia aeration system, AirJet, and the Landia GasMix biogas digester mixing system both incorporate the Chopper Pump design as an integral part of their operation. These solutions are widely recognised for improving process stability, reducing maintenance requirements and supporting efficient biological performance in wastewater treatment and renewable energy applications.
Commenting on the milestone, Liz Robinson, Landia UK’s Operations Executive, said: “We know that there are some big manufacturers in our industry with very high volumes of sales,” said Liz Robinson, Landia UK’s Operations Executive, “but we don’t sell off-the-shelf. We build to order. Every pump and mixer matters, and is traceable back to the individual skilled craftsman who built it. Landia engineers take huge pride in building truly reliable products of top quality.”
She added: “Reaching this major milestone in the company’s history with tailor-made solutions for the precise needs of our customers is therefore all the more remarkable. As a company, we continue to grow year-on-year.”
The 100,000th Landia unit is a DG-I 80 4.0kW 1500rpm submersible chopper pump and is currently on its way to a leading fluid handling solutions provider based in the Midlands. The company supplies, installs and maintains pumping systems across the UK, supporting critical infrastructure and industrial operations where dependable performance is essential.
Landia’s ability to manufacture bespoke pumping and mixing solutions continues to differentiate it in a competitive global market. Rather than focusing on high-volume standardised products, the company’s build-to-order approach ensures that each pump and mixer is engineered to meet specific process requirements, operating conditions and customer expectations.
With sales operations spanning the globe, Landia now supplies equipment worldwide and operates bases in the UK, Germany, China and America, with its head office remaining in Denmark. This international presence enables the company to support customers locally while maintaining consistent engineering standards and manufacturing quality.
As Landia approaches its 100th anniversary, the sale of its 100,000th custom-built unit stands as a powerful indicator of the trust placed in its technology by operators across wastewater treatment, biogas production, food processing and agriculture. It also reinforces the company’s position as a long-term partner to the process industries, focused on reliability, innovation and engineered solutions built to last.
