LIFTING INDUSTRY AWARD FOR DEMAG SERVICE TECHNICIAN

Anthony Grainger, a Service Technician with Demag Cranes & Components Ltd, has been awarded the prestigious Cyril McCauley Memorial Prize by the Lifting Equipments Engineers’ Association (LEEA). Anthony studied for the LEEA’s Lifting Machines (Power) Diploma via a correspondence course, before sitting the examination in April 2010. He passed the diploma with distinction and in the opinion of the LEEA examination board, his paper was the best submitted by 54 candidates worldwide, earning him the Cyril McCauley Memorial Prize.

Anthony received a certificate and a commemorative plaque from LEEA President, John Kilby, at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting, held at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, on Friday 19 November. 29 year old Anthony joined Demag in 2000 as an apprentice, before graduating to the position of Service Technician in April 2003. He currently works within Demag’s North East regional service team.

Demag’s Services Director, Gordon Baird, stated:
“This is a tremendous achievement by Anthony, of which he can be very proud. We are committed to an ongoing programme of workforce training and education, helping us to continue to deliver the highest standards of service in the lifting equipment sector.”

In addition to Anthony’s success, two other Demag Service Technicians passed the Lifting Machines (Power) examination held in April. John Eccleshall and John Millard both achieved their LEEA diplomas, with passes to credit and distinction level respectively.
The LEEA has been providing specialist training services to its members for over fifty years. The organisation has a dedicated training centre at its head office in Huntingdon and also offers training at 
members’ premises or distance learning courses via post, email and online for members worldwide. A broad range of courses is available, including general lifting gear, manual and power operated lifting equipment, runways and light crane structures. The comprehensive training programmes cover design, manufacture, assembly, testing, examination and certification issues, as well as health & safety and legal requirements.
All training courses lead to a written examination, with a certificate or diploma awarded to successful candidates. LEEA’s diplomas are recognised across the lifting equipment industry as the leading qualifications for engineers responsible for the service, repair, testing and examination of lifting equipment.
