Listen to this article

Sulzer Dowding & Mills has become the UK’s first supplier of Loher motors from Siemens Industry Automation & Drive Technologies (IA&DT).

The range of Loher motors are specifically designed for use in hazardous applications including oil and gas and chemicals.  The flameproof motors stocked are available in two pole up to 18.5kw and four pole up to 75kw.  They are all IE2 as standard and VIK and Shell DEP compliant.  In addition, they are painted internally and externally to protect against corrosion and ensure longevity even in the most challenging of environments.

A full range of services is provided by Sulzer Dowding & Mills which includes a complete solutions package for all electro-mechanical requirements.  It provides the supply, overhaul, repair and storage of High and Low voltage motors, supported by qualified engineers providing specialised services on site. This includes equipment installation, motor rewind, motor certification and condition based monitoring of HV switchgear and rotating plant. A complete motor control centre design and build package utilising Siemens drives and controls is also offered from the Aberdeen site.

Andrew Peters, divisional director for Siemens Industry Automation & Drive Technologies, commented: “Our partnership with Sulzer Dowding & Mills is essential in allowing us to offer our customers in oil and gas and chemical industries an extensive range of Loher motors in the UK.  The hazardous environments of these sectors require the most efficient motors to meet specific needs.  As such, it’s important that not only the motors, but the service support offered is bespoke for the particular requirements of these industries, which is why this partnership is so important.”
