The Chemical Business Association (CBA), today (25 April 2012) announced the winners of its annual industry awards for chemical supply chain excellence.  CBA also presented its inaugural Community Interaction Award for engagement with local communities.

The Awards were made at CBA’s Annual Lunch at the Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London, before an audience of more than eleven hundred industry representatives and their guests and were presented by journalist and broadcaster, John Sergeant.

RESPONSIBLE CARE AWARDS

CBA’s Responsible Care Awards recognise the achievements of member companies in raising standards of health, safety, and environmental management.   The Awards focus on three types of supply chain operations which together cover the range of CBA’s membership: office-only distributors; distributors with operating sites; and companies providing logistics services.

·         Office Only – HIGGI LIMITED

The Award for office only distributor companies was won by Wrexham-based HIGGI LIMITED for its commitment to Responsible Care at every level of its business – from the  senior managers to its focus on communication, training, continuous improvements, and community interaction.

·         Operational Site – MULTISOL LIMITED

The Award for operational sites is for companies which may also manufacture, blend, or break from bulk and was won by MULTISOL LIMITED for its successful programme of site visits by A-Level students aiming to increase their awareness of the real-world applications of chemicals.

·         Logistics Services – DHL SUPPLY CHAIN

The Award for companies supplying logistic services was won by DHL SUPPLY CHAIN – which also won the overall CBA Responsible Care Award for its continued company-wide safety campaign and its charitable fund-raising involvement with the local community.

COMMUNITY INTERACTION AWARD

CBA’s Community Interaction Award aims to recognise excellence in community interaction by CBA member companies as active corporate citizens and in promoting a positive image of the industry.

Next year, the Community Award will be open to all CBA member companies but the inaugural Award was presented to an individual who has made several major commitments to educational good causes.

The winner was Mike Smith, Chairman, Norkem.  He was the prime mover in funding Chemistry with Cabbage – the award-winning educational initiative which now provides science workshops for 200 primary schools and more than 6,000 pupils every year.  He was also the driving force behind Chemicroc – an educational website providing an on-line environment helping primary school pupils to learn about chemistry.
