NOV® MONO® DISCAM UNITS HELP PROTECT PUMPS IN CHINA

Listen to this article

A trio of Discam units from NOV® Mono® are now helping protect the pumps installed at a major sewage treatment project in China. The unique Discam units – which have been installed at the No.1, 2 and 3 sewage pumping stations in the Fujian Province city of Fuzhou – combine NOV Mono’s grinder and screen technology to create a highly effective but low maintenance alternative to conventional pump protection solutions.

The units were used in the Lianban waste water treatment plant in Fuzhou city, Fujian province. The project is driven by Suzhou Dayu Water Treatment Equipment Company, which already has numerous NOV Mono progressing cavity pumps in use at these facilities. The reliable and efficient service which these have provided was a key consideration in the decision to order the NOV Mono Discam units. The Discams have been installed at the inlets to the three pumping stations, where they now screen and grind solids in order to protect the large submersible pumps which are used downstream.

“Packaged systems such as Discam are ideal for this type of application,” says NOV Mono’s Business Manager for Waste-Tec products, Ian Hallows. “By screening and macerating solids in a single operation they can create major benefits in wastewater treatment processes. Operating efficiency is increased, while the cost of cleaning plus onward handling and disposal are significantly reduced. The Discam units can be installed in both existing or new-build facilities and this makes them suitable for almost any type of wastewater facility.”

The Discams feature rotating shafts fitted with intermeshing discs, which gently convey solids and debris across the face of the screen to the cutter stacks. These are fitted with interleaving cutters and spacers that create a ‘positive displacement’ action to grind the captured solids. Once the solids have been macerated to a small particle size they are retained in the main flow for further processing or subsequent removal. The Discams need no manual cleaning and they eliminate the disposal costs associated with debris extracted by traditional screening processes. The Discams also features a hi-flow side rail which increases the fluid velocity through the Muncher® and helps ensure low wear, noise and vibration performance.
