Product launch – High Performance and Affordable cylindrical sensors

Leuze electronic’s new 318B family of cylindrical photo-electric sensors is proof that you can have high performance and innovation at a low price. They offer a robust IP67 rated plastic housing with reliable detection and an ingenious, innovative mounting technology making these sensors both low priced and extremely cost effective for standard detection tasks.

The new 318B sensors improve upon the traditional method of using an M18 hole for mounting, by providing fast and simple alignment at no additional cost. The supplied mounting nuts can be reversed to give what we call an “omni-mount” solution, where their curved surfaces enable the easy and secure fastening of the sensors at any angle within ±8° in every direction. This special feature, unique to Leuze, dramatically speeds up the setting of the sensor and therefore reduces the installation cost.

Reducing installation time and so cost is also helped by the sensor having a highly visible “brightVision” light spot and by a bright LED status indicator which make alignment easier.

Robust reliable switching is ensured by the combination of the active suppression of extraneous ambient light, which we call ‘A²LS’ and the use of a two colour LED indicator which provides condition monitoring by showing when the sensor is still working, but finding detection harder than expected -These features provide resistance to external interference and advance warning of problems.  

Cylindrical sensors are common on conveyor systems and an alternative flush mounting option is offered for embedded mounting to avoid fouling against products passing by.

The sensors are available now and will be on show at the Drives & Controls exhibition, NEC, Birmingham, 17 – 19th April.
