SPX receives order for the Saudi Arabian power segment – part of its push as a leading supplier to the power industry and its reputation for leading, high efficiency heat exchange technology.

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, September 10, 2014 – SPX, a leading supplier of flow technology solutions, has been awarded a contract to supply its APV brand cooling water heat exchangers for five new power and desalination plants in Saudi Arabia. The light crude fired plants are located 40km south of Yanbu Al Bahar on the shores of the Red Sea and have capacity of up to 2,500MW and 550,000 cubic metres per day.

The order, placed by the global EPC Al-Toukhi in May 2014, is for the supply of 15 off XL range Z155 APV heat exchangers with titanium plates for auxiliary seawater cooling water duty. Designed for high thermal efficiency and large flow capacity, the Zephyr plate heat exchangers offer a flexible gasketed solution for utility applications. Three units will be installed on each of the five new plants, planned for start-up in 2016.

SPX has a reputation as a supplier of high quality heat exchangers and as a global manufacturer of systems and components for the power generating industries. It has the widest portfolio of plates, ensuring it can meet almost any thermal requirements for any given heat exchanger application. This project is a strategically important part of SPX’s focus to deliver efficient power and energy solutions that aim to reduce the use of natural resources.

Colin Elcoate, VP Business Development – Power at SPX commented, “SPX is committed to developing products and solutions that deliver real benefit to the power and energy segment. We have a proven reputation in providing a wide range of safe and efficient solutions to the industry and in the manufacture of leading plate heat exchangers. We are delighted to receive this order in Saudi Arabia, which is a strategically important region for us.”

SPX plans to manufacture the heat exchangers for  Al-Toukhi in SPX’s facility in Kolding, Denmark, which operates to the highest quality standards in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements as well as ASM/PED pressure equipment regulations to ensure safe, reliable product, leading customer service and on-time deliveries.
