SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC – MAKING WAVES WITH LASER VAGO

Listen to this article

Schneider electric, a global specialist in energy management, is celebrating the record breaking achievements of its head of UK consumer retail as he smashed the current world speed record by 0.3mph in his Laser Vago sailing dinghy.

John Davies and his nephew Jack reached the heady speeds of 17.6mph at the West Kirby Marine Lake on the Wirral, Cheshire  on August 30th, smashing the previous world record of 17.3mph.

“It started out as just another sailing trip but as the winds grew stronger we thought we could really be on to something” said John Davies, head of the UK consumer retail business at Schneider Electric, commenting on his achievement.

To help verify the record the Schneider Electric Vago, like many in its class, is monitored by a GPS Data logger that tracks the speed and distance travelled. The sailing dinghy also features a series of waterproof HD cameras to capture the action and for use in future training sessions.

John commented: “Sailing at speed in strong winds can be tricky as one gust or a mistake could easily have capsized us. We were reliant entirely on our own skills and quick reactions to ensure that when that next gust hit we could harness it to maximise the energy from the wind.”

“Hitting 17.6mph and beating the current record was exhilarating and we’re incredibly proud of the achievement.”

The new world record breaking achievement for John and Jack makes their boat the fastest Vago on the planet!

The Schneider Electric boat is fitted with both a GPS Data Log, to back up the speed and video recording which will provide evidence of this amazing feat.

Schneider Electric really does help to make the most of your energy.
