SHAPA Company of the Year 2020 Russell Finex reflects on win and overcoming COVID19 challenges to help key industries

Listen to this article

Global leader in industrial manufacturing of filtration and separation equipment, Russell Finex has been operating for 85 years and has built up a vast wealth of knowledge in the industry. Established in 1934, the company has worked alongside a variety of industries, providing them with innovation solutions to suit their industrial separation requirements.

Russell Finex was awarded SHAPA Company of the Year 2020, a well-deserved accolade that sought to recognize excellence across a range of criteria from export to innovation across its entire business model. With its continued strategy to increase customer retention and deliver high-quality products to a range of industries, Russell Finex looks to build upon this in the coming years.

Managing Director of Russell Finex Ray Singh commented: “Winning this award, especially during difficult times such as this, when Russell Finex is helping to support and supply key industries, is a sign that our work and efforts are crucial to the solids handling and powder industry. To be recognized and win Company of the Year by this association is a brilliant achievement, and one which we could not do without our employees.”

Reflecting on and adapting to the pandemic

However, with the rise of the COVID pandemic affecting businesses across the globe, steps also have been taken to mediate how Russell Finex manages its operations so that it can continue working effectively. Even with large numbers of staff working remotely, the business is still able to continue delivering innovative sieving, separation, and filtration solutions to existing customers, and to create new business opportunities. Not only has greater use been made of the IT infrastructure, shifting a lot of work online, but green benefits in the form of paper-use reduction have stemmed from this.

As a key part of the larger supply chain to help keep businesses in key industries, such as food and beverage, and pharmaceutical, running, it has been vital that Russell Finex successfully support and deliver needed units to customers. This is a challenge which Russell Finex has only risen to meet.

In one recent example, the Russell Liquid Solid Separator™ – an innovative centrifugal separator for liquid based applications – was adapted from its original purpose to distil ethanol for the creation of vodka to instead make over 50,000 bottles of hand sanitizer. Machine units like the Russell Compact Sieve® continue to be utilized by leading food and pharmaceutical companies to check-screen key products, whilst the Russell AMPro® Sieve Station is an integral part of the additive manufacturing process where we have seen parts for PPE and hospital ventilation equipment being manufactured all over the world.

Ray also said: “We have learned, and are continuing to learn, a lot from this global pandemic. As a business, our staff have shown great understanding, flexibility and worked exceptionally well under the circumstances.”
