Triaxial Accelerometers Offer Solutions For Multi-axis Vibration Applications

Listen to this article

PCB Piezotronics, a world leader in vibration, acoustic, pressure, force and torque sensors, offers a comprehensive range of triaxial accelerometers to provide measurement solutions for a broad range of multi-axis vibration applications.

The company’s extensive range of products all offer high reliability and precision backed with the company’s guarantee of Total Customer Satisfaction (TCS) with many models maintained in stock for quick delivery.

Model 356A45 is a new design of triaxial accelerometer, offering frequency response of 10kHz on all three axes compared to competitive products that typically offer upper frequency response from 5 to 8kHz but frequently have different responses on one of the three axes.

Model 356A45 accelerometers also feature 100mV/g sensitivity with measurement range of ±50g pk and are housed in a titanium package measuring just 10.2 x 10.2 x 10.2mm.

This model is also Transducer Electronics Data Sheet (TEDS) compliant. PCB® also offers the non-TEDS model 356A24 with an even wider frequency range of 12kHz on all three axes.

Even smaller than the above is the model HT356B01, a tiny 6mm cube weighing just 1.0 grams. Offering sensitivity of 5mV/g and measurement range of ±1000g pk over the frequency range 2 to 8000Hz (y or z axis) and 2 to 5000Hz (x axis), this ceramic shear mode ICP® accelerometer is designed for use in high temperature applications operating up to 180°C.

For applications where accelerometers are used in a fast changing temperature environment such as under vehicles on track testing, the effect of temperature change will affect the sensitivity of the sensor.

With standard triax models, the temperature coefficient is around 0.14% per °C but PCB® also offers the 339A32 with a temperature coefficient of =0.02% per °C making it very stable where transient temperatures are encountered.

Model 356B18 is an ultra-sensitive triax that is popular with consultants for monitoring vibration in buildings and structures. It features sensitivity of 1000mV/g so even a 0.2g vibration would provide an output of 200mV. This unit can also resolve signals down to 0.0005g.

For shock applications, PCB Piezotronics offers the model 350B50 based on a piezo crystal with ICP power. It features a measurement range of 10,000g and can survive shocks of up to 25,000g. There is also model 3503A1060KG, a triaxial MEMS shock accelerometer featuring a 60,000g range on all three axes.

PCB Piezotronics’ wide range of triaxial accelerometers is backed by the company’s guarantee of Total Customer Satisfaction (TCS) and supported with a field-proven precision-engineered range of mounting accessories including adhesive mounting bases, mounting magnets, tools and triaxial mounting adaptors to ensure best practice for a quality accelerometer installation and avoidance of time consuming errors.

Many of the most popular accelerometers and accessories in the range are available from stock for delivery within five working days.
