Video Guides On Cascade Control

Listen to this article

West Control Solutions has launched the latest in its series of video guides that help customers to install and utilise the most efficient temperature control solutions available. The temperature control specialist has released two new videos. The first explains the importance of cascade control and why it is necessary, while the second video demonstrates how to set up cascade control on the Pro-EC44 dual temperature controller.

In the first video Ian Collins, Product Manager at West Control Solutions, discusses the important role of cascade control in the manufacturing process, focusing on when it is needed and the processes involved. He also provides a detailed example of an application using cascade control. The benefits of cascade control to manufacturers include improved control performance due to faster responsiveness, which results in less fluctuation in control, less waste and a more efficient system due to reduced risk of damage to the final product.

The second video, ‘How to Set up Cascade Control’, offers a clear and concise explanation of the concept of cascade control and gives typical application examples of how and when it should be used, for example, where there is a lag in the system that may lead to overshoot and, ultimately, overheating the product. The video explains how cascade control improves performance due to faster responsiveness, minimising overshoot and fluctuation in control. It is a valuable tool to aid manufacturers in the correct and appropriate application of cascade control, resulting in a reduced risk of damaging the end product, minimised waste and a more efficient system. The Pro-EC44 provides not only Cascade Control but also dual loop facility and five PID sets for gain scheduling. It is the perfect temperature control solution for a wide range of challenging applications, from industrial ovens and furnaces, laboratory and testing equipment to food and beverage processing.

West Control Solutions’ video series has been designed to assist those working with temperature control applications. They provide a valuable learning resource to better understand the different types of control functionality available and when it is appropriate to use. Previous videos in the sequence have covered topics such as alarm functions and considering different types of control such as On/Off, Proportional and PID.
