VisuNet FLX— The New Modular HMI Solution from Pepperl+Fuchs

Listen to this article

VisuNet FLX is a comprehensive range of highly flexible thin clients, PC’s, and direct monitors for ATEX/IECEx Zone 2/22 and Division 2, and non-hazardous areas. Tailored to meet the needs of the petrochemical, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries with its fully modular design, it can be configured to maximise functionality and can be quickly and easily customised in the field.

The VisuNet FLX family features a wide range of different technologies, mounting options, and peripheral devices. Available as a thin client, PC, and direct monitor, its Microsoft Windows 10 LTSC operating system supports a wide range of applications.  It is of modular design, which facilitates easy upgrades and onsite maintenance of the HMI’s in hazardous areas (Zone 2/22).

Depending on the user specification, the devices in the new VisuNet FLX series are available in a number of configurations.  We offer Celeron (for cost-effective thin client applications) or i5 processors (for more CPU-intensive applications) from Intel's seventh-generation “Kaby Lake.”

  1. HMI system: complete HMI system (with various display sizes in Full HD) available in a thin client, PC, or direct monitor options mounted in a hygienic stainless steel housing.  Suitable for stand-alone installation with a wide range customisable pedestals or support arms available to suit every application.
  2. Panel PC: display (various display sizes in Full HD) combined with a thin client, PC, or direct monitor unit for panel mounting.
  3. Box PC: stand-alone PC or thin client for direct installation in a switch cabinet.

Versions with an extended temperature range of -20 °C … +55 °C are available to meet special requirements.  Thanks to this variety of system, designs and configuration options, users can employ technologically advanced, precisely tailored HMI solutions while benefitting from low investment costs (CapEx).

The modular design of the FLX solution provides additional advantages, including the ability to upgrade to future processor generations on demand by easily replacing a thin client or PC unit. This feature makes the FLX solutions a future-proof investment. Similarly, display units and power supplies can be replaced on site easily during service work, keeping costly downtimes to a minimum.

In addition to the core components, Pepperl+Fuchs is continuously expanding its range of peripheral devices. These include intrinsically safe keyboards, barcode readers and RFID readers for hazardous areas
