Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions introduces WMArchitect Interchangeable Parts for robust single-use assemblies

Listen to this article

Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions (WMFTS) has introduced WMArchitect Interchangeable Parts to improve the longevity of single-use assemblies. The introduction brings pre-qualified replacement components at the design stage, which helps to avoid issues of regulatory compliance as well as extended lead times.

This new bioprocessing product ensures consistent production by preventing stock shortages and reducing shutdown hazards. It makes it simple to substitute the right components, such as tubing, tri-clamps and fittings, with those which are on hand.

Aimed at rounding out WMArchitect™ single-use solutions capability, Interchangeable Parts is supported by qualified scientists and a dedicated Validation Testing expert. WMFTS implements the BioPhorum best practice equivalency evaluation process to provide assurance that issues around compatibility, performance and safety are satisfied.

Interchangeable Parts provides biopharmaceutical companies with a flexible option in the context of uncertainty surrounding component swapping and the lack of settled criteria.

Dr Nicole Hunter, Head of single-use solutions at WMArchitect single-use solutions for WMFTS, stated: “With good understanding of the process and sound science, we help our customers review form, fit and function for replacement parts. Swappable parts are then suggested in the early assembly design stage of your assembly specification.”.

We track lead times of components proactively to track if changes are incremental or on the spot. In the event of a component alert, we can switch quickly to bring in a pre-negotiated alternative with shorter lead time. Standby components may be from WMFTS or third parties.”.

We've adopted the BioPhorum best practice equivalency evaluation process in order to address any compatibility, performance and safety requirements. We maintain total compliance and traceability and by replacing a component with easier availability we can reduce any impact on your workflow.”.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, as an industry we were not sufficiently resilient to the record rise in single-use technology demand. To supply-proof, Interchangeable Parts brings a flexibility and versatility to your process to enable a streamlined, efficient change management which gives regulators greater confidence.”

The key advantages are:

  • Guarantees strong supply of single-use parts and production
  • Reduces regulatory issues related to interchangeable parts
  • Guarantees compatibility and safety through BioPhorum equivalency testing
  • Enhances process flexibility with full traceability and quality control

Introduced at the end of last year, WMArchitect single-use solutions provide end-to-end biopharmaceutical fluid management from one source with both standard and custom assemblies with tailored validation support.
