£250,000 Dust Control Contract Awarded

Listen to this article

DUSTCHECK, one of the UK’s leading manufacturer of industrial air extraction units, have completed a £250,000 contract to install their largest ever Maxibag tubular bag filter system at a North Staffordshire foundry.

The Stoke-on-Trent-based company fought off stiff competition from specialist suppliers to clinch the contract with Goodwin Steel Castings, part of the Goodwin International group.

The 8-metre square, triple chamber unit is fitted with over 1300m2 of filter area and will be used to safely extract contaminated air and dust particles from up to three simultaneous thermal cutting booths used by the firm in the manufacture and supply of steel castings. Total system capacity is over 76,000m3/hr.

David Vaughan, engineering manager at Goodwin’s, said: “The system installed by Dustcheck uses a single, variable speed, floor mounted fan unit which automatically adjusts fan speed depending on whether we are using one, two, or all of our three thermal lance cutting booths. This gives great versatility and efficiency that was simply not available to us previously. It also offers significant energy saving opportunities which is a major consideration to us as a company.”

The Dustcheck SFKB Maxibag range of tubular sock bag filters are a robust, high-efficiency range of reverse jet cleaning dust collectors which have recently been upgraded and re-launched by the company. Manufactured using panel form construction for cost-effective transport and ease of installation, the new systems includes a ‘Snap-Lok’ bag fixing method which simplifies bag change and reduces production downtime during maintenance periods.

Restricted access at the Goodwin plant presented many logistical challenges for the Dustcheck design team, but thanks to the flexibility of the Maxibag range all space constraint issues were quickly overcome. Close collaboration was also required with the client to minimise disruption to their extremely busy production schedule.

Sales Director Pete Dawson commented: “Although many customers associate Dustcheck with cartridge filter solutions, the Goodwin contract was an opportunity to demonstrate our expertise in bag filter applications too. This ‘one- stop’ approach is a key part of the service we provide.”

**Stoke-based Dustcheck have been delivering industrial air filtration and dust extraction systems to the world’s largest manufacturing companies for over 38 years and all systems meet or exceed legislative standards for dust control and containment.
