Introducing the New Modular Canister Pump Tube for Improved Health and Safety in Industry and Trade
Hand pumps, widely used in various industries, come with certain health and safety risks. These pumps can lead to cross-contamination between tanks and pose potential hazards to workers. To tackle these issues, Lutz Pumpen has created an innovative modular pump tube—one of the few designed specifically for canister use. The system includes a clip-on, battery-powered motor that enables users to safely and automatically transfer liquids between multiple canisters, boosting both efficiency and safety.
Tackling the Challenges of Hand Pumps
In numerous industries, hand pumps are utilized to move liquids from canisters, such as hydraulic oils for machinery maintenance or cleaning agents for food industry applications. However, these manual pumps often have notable downsides.
“These pumps are not only inefficient but also ergonomically challenging,” says Andreas Rössler, Sales Manager at Lutz Pumpen GmbH. “Workers often have to kneel to operate the pumps, and there are risks involved, such as liquid splashing or spilling, which can lead to slips or harmful skin contact. Additionally, hand pumps can cause contamination due to liquid carryover between tanks.”
To reduce these risks and enhance workplace safety, Lutz Pumpen has developed a modular pump tube specifically for canisters. This system, paired with a clip-on motor, provides users with a safer, more flexible, and automatic method for transferring liquids between containers.
The new modular pump tubes are designed to work with various canister sizes and media. They come in lengths of 400 mm, 500 mm, and 700 mm, featuring S60 and S70 threads, which are standard in tank technology and chemical applications.
Made from polyethylene (PE) for the pump tube, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) for the hoses and fittings, and stainless steel for the shaft, this system is both durable and resistant to chemicals. These materials provide high mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, and the capability to handle a wide range of media, including low-viscosity mineral oils, cooling lubricants, disinfectants, diesel, flame retardants, fungicides, insecticides, and various cleaning and sanitizing agents.
“This robust combination of materials ensures reliable performance and extended service life, even in demanding industrial environments,” says Rössler.
Once the pump tubes are placed into the canisters, users can easily attach the B2 battery-powered motor from Lutz Pumpen using a quick-release fastener, allowing for immediate operation. The 260-watt brushless DC motor can reach speeds of up to 12,000 revolutions per minute, providing a maximum flow rate of 6 liters per minute for liquids with viscosities up to 400 mPas.
With a single charge of the replaceable battery, users can empty a 200-liter canister up to twelve times in about 35 minutes, ensuring efficient operation and minimizing downtime.
Conclusion
Lutz Pumpen’s innovative modular canister pump tube system greatly enhances health and safety by removing the hazards linked to conventional hand pumps. Its robust design, compatibility with various canisters and media, and the convenience of the clip-on battery-powered motor make it a perfect choice for industrial and trade uses. This system allows workers to handle liquid transfer tasks safely and efficiently, reducing the risk of contamination and injury.
