Amarinth Successfully Completes Major Pump Refurbishment Project for ADNOC Offshore, Enhancing Capacity at Zirku Island Plant
Innovative Pump Solutions for Enhanced Operational Efficiency
Amarinth, a globally recognized designer and manufacturer of low lifecycle cost centrifugal pumps and related equipment, has successfully completed a significant refurbishment and modification project for ADNOC Offshore. This project aimed to boost the capacity of the Zirku Island Plant, a key site in ADNOC’s oil and gas processing operations.
The initiative involved refurbishing and upgrading two Amarinth API 610 duplex hydrocarbon condensate pumps at Zirku Island, ensuring improved operational efficiency with minimal disruption to ongoing processes. This achievement further strengthens the long-standing partnership between Amarinth and ADNOC, with over 450 Amarinth pumps already in operation across ADNOC facilities.
Optimizing Legacy Equipment for Modern Demands
The two pumps, which were installed a decade ago, played a crucial role in the hydrocarbon condensate process at Zirku Island, situated in the Arabian Gulf. As ADNOC aimed to expand the plant’s capacity, they turned to Amarinth for a cost-effective solution that would maximize the use of existing assets.
Amarinth’s engineering team carried out a thorough on-site assessment, conducting a detailed gap analysis to identify how the pumps could be upgraded to meet current ADNOC specifications and increased capacity requirements. The goal was to implement these enhancements while minimizing operational disruptions.
Strategic Enhancements and Minimal Disruption
The solution included designing new pump casings, installing a larger, more efficient motor, and integrating Variable Speed Drives (VSD). These modifications allowed the pumps to achieve higher capacity while maintaining the original baseplate and skid arrangement, as the new motor was specifically designed to fit within the existing footprint.
The Plan 53B seal support systems and mechanical seals were reused and recalibrated, which eliminated the need for any modifications to the pipework and fittings. This strategy helped to reduce both downtime and costs for ADNOC.
To ensure continuous operation of the plant, Amarinth adopted a phased refurbishment strategy, working on one pump at a time. The first refurbished pump was commissioned and put back into service before the second pump was taken offline, allowing for uninterrupted plant performance.
Commitment to Sustainable and Cost-Effective Solutions
Oliver Brigginshaw, Managing Director of Amarinth, expressed: “We are proud to have successfully delivered this project for ADNOC Offshore, reinforcing our commitment to supporting ADNOC’s operations with innovative and sustainable solutions. This refurbishment not only extended the lifespan of the existing pumps but also addressed the increased capacity requirements with minimal operational impact. The project showcases our ability to adapt and optimize equipment to meet the evolving needs of the industry while providing cost-effective solutions.”
