FMX10 Closes the Loop Between Laboratory and Production-Scale Mixing
With the recent launch of the FMX10 Small-Scale mixer, Silverson Machines has further extended its Flashmix range to offer a complete range of powder/liquid mixing solutions. This now ranges from 10 litres laboratory-scale FMX5 all the way up to production-scale mixers such as the FMX75, processing 15,000kg per hour, with a number of models in between.
Silverson laboratory and pilot-scale mixers are constructed to the same high tolerances as their full-scale powder/liquid systems. As a result, the principles of mixing are the same in all sizes, offering an unbroken transition from research and development to full-scale production with repeatable results and minimal downtime.
Silverson's powder/liquid mixing technology is particularly groundbreaking. All the other mixers available operate through vacuum systems pulling powders in, but not with the Silverson Flashmix, which pushes the powder into the stream of liquid instead. This process makes it possible to disperse and hydrate enormous quantities of powder efficiently and, more crucially, allows the equipment to be operated at increased temperatures and higher viscosity liquids than most other systems.
At every size, the process is the same: the mixer sucks liquid from the vessel through a specially formulated high shear workhead at high speed. Once the powder feed valve is activated, the mixer's pumping action collects the powder and sweeps it into the stream of liquid. Ingredients are blended instantaneously in the high shear area before being pumped back into the vessel.
Certain models may be equipped with powder feed hose or sack table and are available in “ultra sanitary” and “chemical duty” designs. In addition, various hopper designs may be offered to facilitate handling of cohesive powders.
