Blueshift to Emphasise the Future of Spaceflight and Thermal Protection Systems at Space Tech Expo USA
Blueshift outlines its mission in next-generation spacecraft longevity and sustainability
Tim Burbey, President and Co-Founder of thermal protection systems specialist Blueshift, will speak at Space Tech Expo USA encouraging more innovation in thermal protection systems. His focus will be on the capabilities of advanced TPS to allow spacecraft to go further and faster more efficiently with the use of energy and material and to extend mission lengths.
In his presentation, Tim will explain how decreasing costs of space travel are accelerating plans for long-distance exploration, and whether the rising number of satellites and spacecraft necessitates an update to the Outer Space Treaty. The presentation will also address the ongoing threat of orbital debris, with satellite populations set to exceed over 55,000 by 2030.
He will be joined by Danny Kamenecka, Business Development Senior Manager at Blueshift. They will present news on upcoming NASA missions, specifically the Artemis Programme and the Gateway lunar-orbit station for NASA, a base for deep space missions in the future such as crewed missions to Mars.
Blueshift has played a key role in protecting spacecraft from negative thermal conditions, with experience operating in temperatures between -200°C and +2,400°C. Their TPS solutions have been utilised in a wide range of applications – electric and hybrid vehicles going 2.1km altitudes, heavy lift rockets crossing 35,000km, and so forth.
With approximately 5,000 ft² of Blueshift material on orbit now and another 2,000 ft² waiting for future launches, the company has extensive experience in working with aerospace-grade materials.
The speech will reflect on some of the industry's key milestones, such as having achieved landing the Blue Ghost Lander on the Moon in March 2025, and how reduced launch prices from private sources such as RocketLab are revolutionising access to space.
The session will conclude by discussing the future direction of NASA and the global space race trend as a whole. According to Tim, the Space Tech Expo is an important milestone to present Blueshift's success so far and plans for the future:
“The Space Tech Expo for a long time has rightly been recognised as one of the premier events in the space industry,” said Tim.
The presentation will be an excellent venue to bring to the spotlight our extensive experience in the industry such as our low-outgassing thermal protection tapes exclusively for satellites and to share with you the thrilling future of space. We hope to exchange our thoughts and get acquainted with key decision makers while we keep on reaching for the stars.
Blueshift's session will be conducted at 3:15PM on 3rd June 2025. Blueshift will also be presenting at stand 213.
