Interpon unveils Soulful Sage™ as its 2027 Color of the Year

AkzoNobel has named Soulful Sage™ as Interpon’s 2027 Color of the Year, highlighting the growing influence of softer, nature-inspired colour palettes and natural materials across contemporary architecture.

The refined soft green shade, with its subtle grey undertones, is available as part of the Interpon D2525 range of superdurable powder coatings. Designed for use across a wide range of architectural and powder-coated applications, Soulful Sage™ brings warmth and understated character to facades, windows, doors, furniture and other products.

The new colour has been developed to balance contemporary architectural expression with long-term appeal. For architects, designers and specifiers, this provides a versatile option that can complement current architectural trends while remaining relevant as projects age.

Nature-inspired colour for contemporary architecture

Soulful Sage™ is more than a single architectural powder coating colour. It sits at the heart of a carefully curated palette featuring nine complementary creams, greys and blues.

The palette has been developed to give architects and designers greater flexibility when bringing colour, material and form together. Depending on the design approach, the shades can be used to create quiet, harmonious schemes or stronger architectural contrasts.

30 years of colour research and trend analysis

Developed by AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetics Center, the 2027 Color of the Year is based on more than 30 years of colour research and global trend analysis.

The development process also involved collaboration with colour experts, architects and designers. The resulting palette is intended to provide a forward-looking reference for professionals making colour decisions for architectural projects where long-term relevance is important.

For building materials and architectural finishes, colour selection can be a long-term decision. Facades, window frames, doors and other powder-coated elements can remain part of a building for many years, making durability and colour retention important considerations alongside aesthetics.

Superdurable powder coating for long-term performance

As part of the Interpon D2525 portfolio, Soulful Sage™ combines contemporary aesthetics with outstanding weatherability, colour retention and superdurability.

These characteristics are intended to help preserve the original design intent throughout the life of a building or product while reducing maintenance requirements.

The performance of an architectural powder coating is particularly important where finishes are exposed to changing weather conditions and other environmental factors over an extended period. Maintaining colour and appearance can therefore be an important consideration when specifying finishes for external architectural applications.

In the UK, Class 2 powder coatings are also receiving increased attention from specifiers seeking greater durability and longer-lasting performance. Industry commentary from the architectural coatings sector points to growing demand for Class 2 products as part of wider efforts to improve building longevity and meet sustainability objectives.

Up to 25-year warranties for the 2027 palette

All colours in the 2027 palette are available with warranties of up to 25 years when applied by an Interpon D Approved Applicator.

The Interpon D range is also supported by an independently verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). It meets Qualicoat Class 2 and GSB Master certifications, as well as the performance requirements of AAMA 2604.

For architects and specifiers, these certifications and performance standards provide additional assurance when assessing architectural powder coating options for projects where durability, sustainability credentials and long-term appearance are important.

The combination of colour choice, superdurability and verified environmental credentials is designed to give specifiers greater confidence that the visual character selected at the design stage can be maintained throughout the intended service life of the building or product.
