Bürkert develops precise dosing valve for demanding laboratory systems
Whisper Valve Type 6732 delivers precise dosing, fast switching and high repeatability for laboratory, analytical and life science applications
Flow control specialist Bürkert has introduced a new precision dosing valve designed for demanding laboratory and analytical systems where accurate fluid handling, rapid response and repeatable results are essential.
The new Type 6732 2/2-way Whisper Valve is a media-separated solenoid valve developed to provide minimal internal volume, fast switching times and high repeatability. These characteristics are designed to support stable processes and reproducible results across applications including life science, bioanalytics and industrial processes.
For systems handling very small quantities of liquids or gases, minimising internal volume can be particularly important. Maximum utilisation starts with minimal internal volumes, allowing the new valve to perform effectively at low volumes. This means even small quantities can be processed accurately and reliably transferred to downstream processes.
The valve’s fast switching capability also supports precise dosing while its optimised flow geometry enables highly effective flushing. Together, these characteristics are designed to improve dosing accuracy and process efficiency while helping users achieve consistent results.
The Whisper Valve range uses Lorentz actuator technology, which provides lower power consumption and reduced noise output compared with alternative valve technologies. Combined with the actuator’s ability to minimise potential heat transfer into the fluids being controlled, this makes the valve suitable for demanding point-of-care and point-of-use applications.
Precision dosing for laboratory and analytical applications
Modern laboratory and analytical systems increasingly require precise control of very small fluid volumes. Small variations in dosing or fluid transfer can affect subsequent process stages and ultimately influence the reproducibility of results.
Applications including PCR analysis, pipetting arms in bioanalytics, oligo synthesis and the packaging of sensitive products can present significant fluid control challenges. Bürkert developed the Type 6732 solenoid valve to address these requirements by combining accurate dosing with fast actuation and a compact design.
The valve is designed to perform in both life science applications and industrial processes. Its actuator provides high dynamics and significantly improved repeatability compared with conventional actuators, supporting precise and consistent fluid control.
This combination of rapid response and repeatable operation can be particularly valuable where automated systems need to dispense or transfer small quantities repeatedly as part of a controlled process.
Accuracy meets versatile design
The new valve is available in a wide range of materials, making the media-separated design compatible with almost all liquids and gases.
The Type 6732 2/2-way Whisper Valve combines dosing accuracy, low internal volume and compact construction in a versatile valve designed to support a range of laboratory, analytical and industrial applications.
Media separation is particularly relevant in applications where the controlled medium needs to remain isolated from the valve’s actuator and other internal components. This can help support demanding fluid handling processes while providing flexibility in the choice of media.
The compact design also enables the valve to be integrated into equipment where installation space is limited. Measuring just 7 mm in width, the valve is designed for space-critical applications where component size can be a significant consideration.

Efficient flushing at low volumes
Effective flushing can be an important requirement in laboratory and analytical fluid handling systems, particularly where different media need to be processed through the same equipment.
The Type 6732 has been designed with optimised flow geometry to support highly effective flushing even at low volumes. This is intended to provide greater confidence in dosing accuracy and efficiency while supporting excellent repeatability.
For point-of-care and point-of-use equipment, where compact dimensions and accurate fluid management can both be critical, the valve’s combination of low internal volume and efficient flushing can help equipment manufacturers address demanding design requirements.
The system is also designed to provide high chemical resistance within its compact format. This gives the Type 6732 the flexibility required for applications involving demanding liquids and gases.
In addition, the valve features a vacuum-compatible design, allowing it to be used in processes where vacuum operation forms part of the application requirements.
Lorentz actuator technology reduces power and noise
The Type 6732 uses Lorentz actuator technology to provide fast and precise valve movement. The technology enables rapid switching while supporting accurate control of the valve.
The Whisper Valve design also offers lower power consumption and noise output than alternative valve options. This can be relevant for laboratory and analytical equipment where energy consumption, acoustic performance and thermal management can all influence equipment design.
Another advantage is the actuator’s ability to minimise potential heat transfer into the fluids being controlled. This characteristic can be particularly important in applications where temperature-sensitive media are handled.
The combination of low power consumption, low noise, limited heat transfer and rapid switching makes the technology suited to a range of compact fluid handling systems.
Intelligent diagnosis with ValveInsight
The Type 6732 also incorporates Bürkert’s ValveInsight technology for monitoring valve performance.
While the Lorentz actuator enables direct and precise valve movement with very fast switching times, Bürkert’s ValveInsight technology analyses the current profile of the actuator to detect deviations at an early stage without the need for additional sensors.
This provides continuous monitoring of switching behaviour and can support proactive control of the valve. By identifying deviations at an early stage, the technology is designed to provide greater insight into valve operation without requiring additional sensors to be integrated into the system.
Such monitoring can be valuable in both mobile and stationary applications where reliable valve operation is important to overall process efficiency.
Supporting reproducible laboratory processes
For laboratory automation and analytical equipment manufacturers, repeatability is an important consideration when designing systems that handle small volumes. Consistent dosing and fluid transfer can help maintain stable process conditions and support reproducible results.
The Type 6732 brings together low internal volume, fast switching, effective flushing and high repeatability in a compact media-separated solenoid valve. Its range of available materials and vacuum-compatible design further extends its suitability for demanding applications.
From PCR analysis and bioanalytics to oligo synthesis and sensitive product packaging, the valve has been developed to address applications where accurate and reliable fluid control is central to system performance.
The combination of precision dosing, compact dimensions and intelligent monitoring makes the Type 6732 suitable for equipment designers looking for a flexible fluid control solution for laboratory, analytical and industrial applications.
