Landia GasMix system selected for biogas plant at Indian distillery

Landia has secured an order to supply its GasMix biogas digester mixing system to one of India’s largest distilleries, where wastewater will be used to generate biogas and help reduce the site’s reliance on external energy supplies.

The GasMix system, which has more than 1,700 installations worldwide, is designed to allow equipment to be accessed easily from outside the digester tank, simplifying maintenance.

The installation will incorporate venturi nozzles and 30kW, 1,500rpm Landia Chopper Pumps. These will break down solids in the distillery’s wastewater stream and keep them in suspension to support effective mixing and maximise biogas yields.

The distillery produces some of India’s best-selling whiskies, gins, vodkas, rums and brandies. It has already reduced its dependence on the national electricity grid by 60% following the installation of a high-pressure turbine.

By recycling a mixture of liquid and biogas through the new anaerobic digestion (AD) plant, the GasMix system is expected to help the distillery increase its energy self-sufficiency.

The order follows Landia’s involvement at Rosemaund Farm Distillery in Herefordshire, England, where a Landia pump is used to handle wastewater from whisky production.

Rosemaund is producing a premium single malt whisky made with Maris Otter barley, distilled and aged among apple orchards on the family farm. Guy Ritchie, creator of the Netflix series The Gentlemen, is an early backer, shareholder and creative collaborator at the distillery, which has recently announced its third release.
