Alder Hey hospital enters a new era

Caring for 270,000 young people and their families each year is a mammoth task that Alder Hey has been involved with since 1914.

In 2015 they have entered a new era with the opening of their much-heralded new £237m hospital.

This new hospital has been built within a park and the design, which has been partially inspired by the vision of many of the children that have been touched by Alder Hey. Environmental considerations were also important and Grundfos Pumps were delighted to play their part, not for the first time, as they have worked with Alder Hey for many years and this was one of the first sites to install energy efficient Grundfos MAGNA pumps in 2002.

By their very nature, hospitals are operationally complex sites this means selecting the correct pumps to support every aspect of their operation is vital. Grundfos assisted with the specification and supply of 70+ speed-controlled pumps and booster sets as well as pressurisation units and ancillary equipment. The system is supported by BACnet technology – an international data communication technology used in BMS worldwide.

During their 100-year history, Alder Hey have been at the forefront of medical excellence and pioneered many groundbreaking medical 1sts that have put them at the forefront of medical innovation.

Dealing with unwell children and giving them the support that they need in the best environment possible is something that is at the heart of the new Alder Hey and Grundfos are proud that their pumps will be playing a supporting but crucial role.
