Advantech Industrial Storage Modules, new and unique security features

December 2011 – Advantech announces the implementation of new technology in the new SQFlash SATA Flash Drive series. Advantech”s new SQFlash SATA Flash Drive series have been developed with many firmware and hardware improvements to better fulfill high reliability requirements for industrial markets. Innovations include “Fragment Writing Technology” which focuses on prolonging the lifespan of flash drives, and “GuaranteedFlush Technology” unique feature to further ensure data integrity even during power failures. Higher speed DDR cache is also utilized to minimize data flushing delays to boost overall performance.

Fragment Writing Technology Reduces Erase Count

Flash endurance relies on erase cycles of each block. Most SATA SSD in the market can only process data into the Flash by merging / erasing blocks no matter how much the block is occupied. But now, SQFlash SATA products can breakdown data into sub-block levels (pages) and avoid blocks being erased unless they are fully occupied.

New Power-loss Data Protection for SSD”s Equipped with DRAM

DRAM cache is a popular design within Flash Modules. However, this could raise some concerns about data integrity especially when power failures occur since the data cache in DRAM is volatile. The most common error that causes the flash memory to crash is Block Mapping Table information has been incompletely flushed from DRAM to NAND flash. To overcome this, a new technology called “GuaranteedFlush” has been implemented with the new controller in SQFlash SATA products to ensure that the host acknowledges data is written only if the data is fully committed to NAND Flash and avoids incomplete data flushing due to abnormal interruptions.
