RELIABLE, ROBUST AND ECONOMICAL: COBASEALTM THE ULTIMATE BEARING OIL SEAL FOR DRY GAS SEALS APPLIED IN CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSORS
Bearing oil seal
The CobaSeal™ bearing oil seal launched by EagleBurgmann is a new development featuring low total cost of ownership and extremely long MTBM (Mean Time between Maintenance) intervals, which can extend to as much as ten years. CobaSeal fits in all standard installation spaces. Labyrinths and other seals can be converted without having to make any changes to the compressor.
This innovative bearing oil seal is a coaxial gas-lubricated mechanical seal which can be put to universal use and eliminates all the disadvantages of previously known systems such as labyrinths and radial carbon ring seals. Thanks to its aerostatic functioning principle and use of the latest material technologies, the seal is not only tolerant of cryogenic buffer gases but also greatly reduces buffer gas consumption levels. A high pressure operating limit of 10 bar in continuous operation enables the compressor to be used safely even when the process side tandem gas seal has failed.
CobaSeal is oil-tight when the compressor is not in use, and runs in aerostatic mode with no contact and zero wear under all active operating conditions. There are no restrictions whatsoever with regard to slow roll, turning gear or coast down modes. High-grade face materials guarantee reliable operation with cryogenic inert buffer gases (very low dew points) and avoid blistering as a consequence of contact with oil.
Brief contact between the sliding faces in dynamic operation does not cause any problems thanks to the robust design (a ductile unbreakable ring and patented DM-TiN high-performance coating of the sealing faces). CobaSeal is not sensitive to vibrations and radial oscillations.
