Reduce energy costs and improve efficiency in fluid transfer applications in UK chemical processing industries

AxFlow is assisting companies within the UK chemical processing industries to reduce their energy costs and improve efficiency in fluid transfer applications by introducing them to the benefits of the Blackmer ProVane motor speed pump.

The Blackmer ProVane pump employs a hydrodynamic journal bearing that reduces shaft/bearing contact and minimises friction, which in turn leads to higher mechanical efficiency and energy savings. When in operation the hydrodynamic journal bearing, described by AxFlow as a fluid boundary forming principal, eliminates contact between the shaft and the bearing in the pump by hydroplaning above the bearing surface on a cushion of liquid.

In this hydrodynamic condition metal-metal contact or wear is eliminated so the bearing life becomes indefinite. The Blackmer ProVane has been engineered to achieve hydrodynamic mode, the point at which the liquid film delivers the lowest bearing friction and least wear, in the shortest possible time in order to preserve the life of the bearing. In this respect, it is quite simply the fastest pump in its class. The pump also maintains the optimum bearing characteristics even under a wide range of operating conditions within many chemical processing and transfer applications.

The Blackmer ProVane is ideal for shear-sensitive liquids while delivering a consistent volumetric output to ensure quality blending. Exceptional suction and self-priming capabilities provide this pump with the capabilities to move fluids from storage tanks to mixers located at a higher level within the production plant. The elimination of a gear reducer gives the ProVane not only a compact profile but contributes to greater energy efficiency, easier installation and reduces maintenance and downtime.

The pump’s vane technology principle give it a superior performance even after a significant period of operation and removes the efficiency-robbing  ‘slip’ that may occur with other types of pump. The ProVane delivers operating speeds up to 3,600rpm and capacities up to 379lt/min in port sizes ranging from 20mm (3/4”) to 50mm (2”). Designed for continuous duty operations, this pump offers the superior line stripping and fluid transfer efficiency of conventional vane pumps, with the added benefits of higher operating speeds, longer bearing and vane life and a single mechanical seal.
