JOHN CRANE BUYS ORION TO BOOST BEARINGS OFFERING

Listen to this article

John Crane has expanded the hydrodynamic bearings products and services it offers to customers of high-performance rotating equipment with the purchase of the US-based manufacturer Orion Corporation. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval.

Orion employs 270 people at its facilities in Grafton, Wisconsin, and Columbus, Nebraska, where it designs and manufactures hydrodynamic bearings for use in high speed turbine, generator, compressor and gear drive applications. It is a leading technology solution provider to the power generation industry and also serves many prominent oil and gas, general industrial and marine equipment manufacturers.

The development reflects John Crane’s continued expansion of its range of solutions for high-performance rotating equipment, which includes such other product areas as mechanical seals and support systems, specialised filtration equipment and power transmission couplings.

Paul Cox, President, John Crane, commented: “This acquisition illustrates our strategy to develop market-leading product lines that can be grown using our extensive global sales and service network.  Orion builds critical mass in John Crane’s hydrodynamic bearing business and adds a manufacturing, sales and service base in North America to supplement our existing operations in Europe.  This will establish John Crane as one of the leading manufacturers in the hydrodynamic bearings sector.”
