Edinburgh University admitted its first students as far back as 1583. This makes it the 6th oldest English-speaking university in the world. Over the centuries it has produced a litany of impressive alumni that have included Robert Louis Stevenson, Charles Darwin and JM Barrie, to name but a few.
The McEwan Hall has historically been the university’s venue for graduations, examinations and concerts. Dating back to 1897, it was much in need of a refurbishment that would improve access, undertake repairs and upgrade the building services.

To achieve this, Grundfos Pumps worked in partnership with Buro Happold and Arthur McKay Building Services to deliver a new M&E solution. This included a range of Grundfos energy efficient circulators that will support all the heating, cooling and hot water demands.
The completion of this £35m upgrade means that this Hall will not only continue to play its chosen role in the life of the university for many years to come, but with an added flexibility that will see it been used as a location of choice for an even wider range of events and activities
