INDUSTRY DRIVEN TO DISCUSS ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT & ECONOMICS
In a move that underlines the critical importance of systems engineering in achieving energy efficiency, five leading industry trade bodies have taken the unusual step of getting together to organise a Conference to tackle the topic and hopefully produce guidance and solutions for their end user customers.
The Motor Driven Systems (MDS) Conference will take place on 9th and 10th November 2011, at St. John’s Hotel, Solihull.
The five national trade associations for pumps, compressed air, motors, drives, controls and the fan industry (BPMA, BCAS, BEAMA, GAMBICA and FETA) have joined forces to launch this national debate, which is being organised by Touchwave Media.
Why now?
With electric motors and motor driven systems in industry and commerce, together with pumps, fans and compressors, comprising 40% of the world’s total electricity consumption, it is clear that this is an area demanding careful analysis and positive action.
Given that there is existing, new and future legislation that many are not aware of, as well as new and existing technologies that offer the potential to reduce the energy demand of motor systems across the global economy by 20% to 30% with short payback periods, then clearly there are huge challenges as well many potential savings opportunities.
The MDS Conference will take the form of a discussion forum examining developments within motor driven systems that impact upon energy and the environment and the consequent economic implications.
The event will look at existing and forthcoming legislation on energy efficiency; the degree to which standardisation can play its part; system strategies – which ones are in place and which ones could and should be in place; technologies – what exists now and what is in the pipeline?
The conference will include sessions where key representatives from the UK government together with Motor Driven System organisations, manufacturers and technical experts will present their views.
Who should attend?
Decision makers, financial heads, energy managers, plant engineers, and facilities managers within the manufacturing and processing industries or other sectors where pumps, compressed air, motors, drives, controls and fans have a part to play.
